1. Erectile dysfunction & online care – for Doctors365 patients
If you are already a Doctors365 patient, you’re used to booking online, talking to real doctors, and getting quick, safe help from home.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) can feel more embarrassing than other health issues – but it’s very common, and many men prefer to talk about it online rather than in a clinic.
At the same time, you’ve probably seen adverts for “instant ED pills” or “subscription boxes” on social media. Research shows these direct-to-consumer (DTC) platforms can help with access and privacy, but they often don’t provide a full medical assessment or direct contact with a doctor. [1,2,4,5]
This article explains, in simple language:
- What ED is
- What recent studies say about online ED platforms and telemedicine [1–5]
- How Doctors365 is different from quick pill websites
- When ED can be safely managed online – and when you need in-person care
2. What is erectile dysfunction (ED)?
Erectile dysfunction means you regularly have trouble getting or keeping an erection firm enough for satisfying sex.
It can be caused by one or more of the following:
- Blood-flow problems – high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol
- Hormone changes – especially low testosterone
- Nerve issues – after surgery, spinal problems, or long-term illnesses
- Psychological factors – stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties
- Lifestyle factors – lack of exercise, obesity, heavy alcohol use, some drugs
ED is not “just in your head.” It is often an early warning sign for heart and blood-vessel disease or other health problems. [3,4]
That’s why a proper assessment matters – even if the treatment ends up being a simple tablet.
3. Why many men prefer online ED help
Studies of online ED care highlight the same thing men tell us every day: it can be hard to say “I have erection problems” face to face. [1,2,5]
Common reasons for choosing online help include:
- Embarrassment or fear of judgment
- Busy work or family life
- Living far from a clinic or specialist
- Wanting discreet delivery of medication to home
Telemedicine, when used correctly, gives you privacy and convenience while still connecting you to a real doctor.
4. What research says about ED and online platforms
Two studies by Brink and colleagues looked closely at 15 online platforms that offer ED treatment in the USA. [1,2]
These platforms:
- Worked online only
- Served most US states
- Offered consultation + prescription for ED medications (PDE5 inhibitors)
- Arranged delivery of the medication to the patient
4.1 How the 15 ED platforms worked
Researchers searched Google for “telehealth erectile dysfunction”, “telemedicine erectile dysfunction”, and “online erectile dysfunction” and analysed the top results. [1,2]
They found that:
- 14 out of 15 (93%) started with an online form you fill in yourself
- Around two-thirds promised that a prescriber would review your case within 2 business days [1,2]
Who reviews your case?
- Only about 27–33% clearly said doctors only review the cases
- Some used the vague term “provider”
- Others used a mix of doctors and non-doctor prescribers
- On about half of the platforms, you only had direct contact (chat, audio, or video) with a prescriber if needed or if required by law [1,2]
So on many of these sites, you might never actually speak to a doctor.
4.2 Pricing, “free” consults, and privacy
The same studies found: [1,2]
- 10 platforms advertised “free” consultations – but the costs were included in monthly or quarterly medication subscriptions
- 4 platforms bundled the consultation with the first month of tablets
- One used a subscription plus a monthly refill fee
All 15 platforms sold sildenafil and tadalafil, but prices varied widely: [1,2]
- Sildenafil: minimum prices from about $0.50–35 per pill
- Tadalafil: minimum prices from about $0.50–44 per pill
Some sites were very clear about the dose and strength of medication; others only gave a “price per dose” without saying how strong the tablet is. [1,2]
Privacy:
- All had a website privacy policy
- Only about two-thirds clearly mentioned HIPAA (US health-data protection law)
- A couple even said they were not covered by HIPAA [1,2]
4.3 What they did not always do
A separate review of telemedicine in urology found that DTC platforms treat ED, premature ejaculation, testosterone problems, and male infertility – but their adherence to clinical guidelines is only modest, and outcomes are not well studied. [5]
Another important study followed young men (40 or younger) attending a traditional ED clinic and found: [4]
- 15% were obese
- 20% had prediabetes or diabetes
- 54% had abnormal cholesterol
- 20% had low testosterone
- Among those who had semen analysis, 40% had abnormal results
- 35% had varicoceles (enlarged veins in the scrotum that may affect fertility)
These health issues would be easy to miss if care is based only on an online questionnaire without a proper medical assessment or examination. [4,5]
5. What this means if you’re a Doctors365 patient
If you are already used to Doctors365, you probably expect:
- To see who your doctor is
- To book a clear time slot
- To have a real conversation, not just check boxes on a form
The research above supports this approach:
- ED platforms that rely mainly on forms might miss important underlying problems, especially in younger men [4]
- Some platforms are not completely clear about who is treating you or how your health data are protected [1,2]
- Clinical guidelines can be difficult to follow without proper history-taking, examination (when needed), and follow-up [4,5]
Doctors365 is designed to keep what is good about online ED care – privacy and convenience – while still giving you doctor-led, evidence-based medicine.
6. How Doctors365 ED care works – step by step
If you’re already a Doctors365 patient, much of this will be familiar. Here’s how it works specifically for ED:
- Log in and choose a specialist
- Go to, for example, Urology or Endocrinology and browse doctor profiles.
- Book a time that suits you
- Select an available slot – often same-day or next-day, depending on the doctor’s schedule.
- Confirm and pay securely
- You’ll see the consultation fee up front.
- Pay using our secure, encrypted system.
- Attend your online visit
- Join via video or audio from a private, quiet place.
- Your doctor will ask about your erections, general health, medications, lifestyle, mental health, and relationship context – not to judge you, but to keep you safe and choose the right treatment. [3–5]
- Get a plan, prescription (if appropriate), and summary
- After the consultation you receive a written summary.
- Your doctor can issue an e-prescription or local prescription if it is medically safe, and may recommend tests or an in-person visit if needed. [4,5]

7. Benefits of using Doctors365 for ED
Based on the research and our clinical experience, ED care with Doctors365 offers:
- Real doctors, not just forms – you speak to a named urologist, endocrinologist, or other specialist
- Whole-person assessment – your heart, hormones, mental health, and fertility are considered, not just the erection problem [3–5]
- Clear, one-off fees – no hidden ED subscriptions; you pay per consultation
- Continuity of care – you can see the same doctor again to review tests or adjust treatment
- Medical-grade privacy – secure, encrypted consultations and clear data policies
It keeps the best parts of telehealth (convenience, privacy) while reducing the risks described in DTC platform studies. [1,2,4,5]

9. Online vs in-person: what’s safe to manage online?
9.1 Usually suitable for online ED care
Online ED consultation is often enough when:
- ED is the main problem and you feel otherwise well
- You want to start or review ED medication like sildenafil or tadalafil
- You’re willing to do blood tests if your doctor advises them
- You have no known high-risk heart disease that has not been checked recently [3–5]
Your Doctors365 doctor can:
- Prescribe ED medication safely if there are no major risks
- Order blood tests (for sugar, lipids, testosterone, etc.)
- Suggest lifestyle changes and psychological support
9.2 When an in-person visit is important
Your doctor may recommend an in-person examination or referral if:
- You have a penile lump or significant bend (possible Peyronie’s disease)
- You notice testicular lumps or swelling, or one testicle is much smaller
- You have very low energy, breast enlargement, or other hormonal signs
- You’re trying to conceive and there are concerns about fertility [3,4]
DTC platforms based only on questionnaires may miss these red flags. [4,5]
10. Safety first: red-flag symptoms you should not ignore
While ED itself is usually not an emergency, some situations are urgent:
- Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or sudden weakness – call emergency services immediately
- Sudden loss of vision after taking ED medication – emergency
- Erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism) – go to an emergency department
- Severe allergic reaction – swelling of lips or tongue, difficulty breathing
If you ever experience these, do not wait for an online appointment. Seek emergency care.
11. Tadalafil vs sildenafil – which might suit your lifestyle?
A digital real-world data study found that many patients prefer tadalafil over sildenafil. [3]
Why?
- Longer duration – tadalafil can work up to about 36 hours
- More flexibility – it can be taken as needed or as a low-dose daily tablet
- Less pressure on timing – sex doesn’t have to be planned around a specific hour [3]
Sildenafil is still an excellent option and may be better for some men. The “right” choice depends on:
- Your medical history
- Other medications
- How often you have sex
- Personal preference and side effects [3–5]
On Doctors365, your doctor will talk through these options with you, rather than assuming one drug fits everyone.
12. Pricing & availability on Doctors365
Doctors365 is not a subscription pill box. Key points:
- You pay a clear per-consultation fee, shown before booking
- There is no mandatory monthly subscription for ED tablets
- Medication costs depend on your local pharmacy or health system; your doctor can consider this when recommending options
- Many doctors offer evening or weekend slots, depending on your location
This is different from many DTC ED platforms, where pricing is built around recurring monthly payments and “free” consults that are actually paid for through subscriptions. [1,2]
13. How to get the most from your online ED visit
Before your Doctors365 appointment, it helps to prepare:
- Make a list of medications and supplements
- Include everything: prescriptions, over-the-counter meds, herbal products.
- Think about your ED pattern
- How long has it been happening?
- Is it every time, or only sometimes?
- Do you still get morning or night-time erections?
- Note other health issues
- Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, depression, past surgeries. [3,4]
- Check any recent blood tests
- If you have results, keep them ready or take a photo.
- Choose a private space
- Somewhere you feel comfortable talking openly, without interruptions.
The more honest and detailed you can be, the easier it is for your doctor to keep you safe and choose the best treatment. [4,5]
14. FAQs (frequently asked questions)
1. I already use Doctors365 for other issues. Do I need a new account for ED?
No. You can use the same Doctors365 account and simply book with a urologist, endocrinologist, or men’s-health specialist who sees ED patients.
2. Will I definitely get ED tablets after my consultation?
Not always – and that’s part of safe care. Your doctor will first check whether ED medication is appropriate and safe for you. Sometimes tests, lifestyle changes, or other treatments are better options. [3–5]
3. How is Doctors365 different from “ED subscription” websites?
ED subscription platforms often rely on forms, limited contact with doctors, and automatic refills. [1,2]
Doctors365 gives you one-to-one consultations with named doctors, guideline-based care, and no forced monthly subscriptions. [4,5]
4. I’m under 40. Is ED still something I should worry about?
Yes, but don’t panic. A study of young men with ED found important issues like obesity, abnormal cholesterol, prediabetes/diabetes, low testosterone, and fertility problems. [4]
The good news is that catching these early gives you a chance to improve both your erections and your long-term health.
5. Will my ED consultation be confidential?
Yes. Doctors365 uses secure, encrypted technology and strict privacy policies. Research shows that some DTC ED platforms are not always clear on how they handle health data. [1,2]
With Doctors365, your ED consultation is treated just like any other medical visit – private, confidential, and medically governed.
15. Summary & next steps
Research shows that online ED platforms have changed how men access treatment – making it more private and convenient. [1,2,5] But it also shows that:
- Many rely heavily on forms without real conversations
- Guideline adherence can be modest
- Important underlying health problems can be missed, especially in younger men [3–5]
As a Doctors365 patient, you already have access to something safer and more complete:
- Real doctors
- Evidence-based care
- No forced subscriptions
- Clear focus on your whole health, not just one symptom
If ED is affecting your confidence, relationships, or quality of life, you don’t have to handle it alone – and you don’t have to rely on anonymous pill websites.
