À propos

Hello, my name is Valerie. Since I was very young I went to therapy myself, I came accross many wonderful therapists who helped overcome those difficult moments we come accross in life. Seeing how they helped me turn my life around it inspired me to do the same for others. I decided to go back to graduate school at a later period in my life after gaining work experience in various work settings around the world. I realized that counseling and helping others achieve the best versión of themselves is my passion. I graduated from The Open University in the United Kingdom with a B.A with Honours in Psychology and Counseling. I then pursued my Masters degree in Spain in Third Generation Cognitive Therapies. I have worked both in private practice as well as clinics with a wide rage of patients from teenagers, adults, and couples. Using a tailored approach to each of the client’s needs I implement a personalized approach using various therapies such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Commitment and Acceptance Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, as well as Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy. Life can often be difficult and hard to navigate, but I believe that we all have the strength and resilience to grow and change, and live a more fulfilling life. Therapy is a challenging, yet warm process that entails self-reflection and honest conversation. It is important for me to create a space for you to feel comfortable, and open. My goals are to help you reach your goals in a supportive, empathetic, and compassionate space where you feel safe. Therapy is a place to feel known and understood. It is also a place to overcome painful experiences. I am committed to working deeply and gently with your life story and issues, while understanding the beauty and the brokenness in your unique story. Whether you are struggling with short-term or lifelong challenges, we will find ways to address them. Each of us deserves to know what it feels like to be supported during life's challenges, and that is what I am offering to you. Together we will work to gain a better understanding of yourself and your relationships. We build on your strengths so you can learn to apply them toward healing, growth, and change. Perhaps you are high functioning in certain areas but struggling in others; perhaps you are wanting to make meaningful connections or find your voice in a relationship; therapy is a place where these things can happen. I am NOT a smile and nod kind of psychologist; that's just not my style. Instead, I roll up my sleeves and get in the "storm" with you. I have heard it all, so I am not afraid to talk about anything you want to talk about. Depression. Abuse. Addiction. Sex. Money. Just say it; there is nothing to be ashamed about in my space. It is a safe and confidential place to be honest. It is likely that you and I will work well together if you are motivated to learn about yourself and discover new behaviors and new thought patterns. It is important to remember that change is a journey, not a destination.
